I k+lled two men in revenge for the m¥rder of my parents and two elder brothers about 29 years ago — Suspected serial k+ller confesses

A 40-year-old suspect, Akaninyene Eretus, arrested in Creek Town, Odukpani LGA, Cross River State, has told detectives at the State CID under the Cross River State Police Command that he k+lled two men in revenge for the k+lling of his parents and two elder brothers during a communal crisis about 29 years ago.

He allegedly admitted to k+lling Okokon and Okon on May 24 and 25, 2026. Their bodies have been recovered and deposited in a hospital morgue for preservation, identification, and autopsy.

According to a statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the suspect confessed to only two k+llings, countering viral claims that he had k+lled about 30 people. The clarification followed public alarm after shallow graves were discovered in a forest hideout in Abanyama, Ukim Ita community.

The police confirmed that only two bodies have so far been recovered and that reports of mass k+llings remain unverified and capable of causing panic.

In his confession, Eretus said he could not forget the loss of his family and lived with the pain for nearly three decades, insisting he acted to “avenge” them. He added that one victim was k+lled while asleep, while the other was att@cked with a m@chete.

ASP Eitokpah stated that investigations are ongoing and the suspect’s statements are still being verified. He added that charges will follow after forensic and legal procedures are completed. The suspect is currently cooperating with investigators.
