After Akpabio Stepped Down, The Moment The President Won, News Came That He Zeroed Him As Number 3-Ojo

Citing the emergence of Godswill Akpabio as Senate President following his resignation in favor of President Bola Tinubu during the All Progressives Congress’s 2022 presidential primary, public affairs analyst Jide Ojo has discussed the political events that occurred afterward.

Ojo recalled in an interview on Trust TV how Akpabio withdrew from the presidential race at the APC primary held at Eagle Square in Abuja and instructed his followers to support Tinubu.

In his opinion, the events that followed Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election demonstrated how political alliances and sacrifices made during party elections may eventually have an impact on government appointments and positions.

“After Godswill Akpabio resigned for President Tinubu at Eagle Square and stated that all of his delegates should back President Tinubu. “ The moment the president was elected and sworn in on May 29, the news broke that President Bola Tinubu had chosen Godswill Akpabio as the third citizen, as the head of the Senate, according to Ojo.

According to the analyst, such political configurations are typical inside party structures, where individuals who back the eventual winners are frequently given key positions after elections as a reward.

In June 2022, at the party convention, former Akwa Ibom State governor and former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs Akpabio withdrew from the APC presidential contest after competing alongside numerous other contenders.
