“I retire from trying to make you happy, I challenge you to find happiness on your own” — Will Smith tells Jada Pinkett Smith
Hollywood actor Will Smith has shared a candid reflection on his marriage to Jada Pinkett Smith, speaking on his views about love, personal responsibility, and happiness.
Will Smith, the award-winning American actor and musician, is married to actress and talk show host Jada Pinkett Smith. The couple has been in the public eye for decades due to their careers and openness about their relationship journey.
In a video he posted online, Will smith sent a message to her saying, “I retire from trying to make you happy. I need you to go make yourself happy and prove to me that it is possible.”
He explained that his statement was rooted in her belief that happiness is not something one partner can create for another. According to him, while a relationship can bring love, laughter, comfort, and emotional support, it cannot be the sole source of a person’s happiness.
He further emphasized that true happiness comes from within and requires personal effort, self-awareness, and emotional growth. In his view, expecting a partner to fully “make you happy” places unrealistic pressure on the relationship.
