When Otti Was Writing For Sahara, Condemning All Gov’s, I Warned Him That I’d Come After Him-Sowore
Omoyele Sowore, in a video posted on his official YouTube account, spoke about his experiences with Governor Alex Otti during the latter’s time as a columnist for Sahara Reporters.
Sowore recalled how Otti consistently wrote articles condemning governors across the country, highlighting issues of governance and accountability. He explained that Otti approached journalism with a unique intensity, ensuring that his writings remained relevant even after several years.
According to Sowore, “I’ve said it severally, Otti is my friend. Otti used to write articles on Sahara Reporters condemning all the governors of the country. When he got to become governor, the articles were still there; I used to publish them. He was a columnist on Sahara Reporters; he used to wake me up at 4am in the morning to publish his articles. He’ll condemn all the governors; that is his prescription for governance, and I used to warn him, by the way. I’ll tell you for the first time. I said if you become governor and you’re mediocre, I’ll come after you. So I went to Aba, and I saw what Otti did, and I said, “Why is everybody hyping Otti? “I didn’t see anything spectacular.”
Sowore’s narration highlighted both the dedication of Otti as a journalist and the high expectations placed upon him. The column often provoked thought and discussion on political leadership, with Otti’s critique spanning from the performance of sitting governors to systemic issues affecting governance.
The activist also reflected on his personal interactions with Otti, noting the warnings he gave regarding the responsibilities of leadership. Sowore indicated that his caution was rooted in the need for tangible results once Otti assumed office, emphasizing that the same rigor and standards applied in journalism should translate into effective governance.
