Seyi Makinde Played Into The Trap Set By Wike, The Refusal to Conduct Congresses in 11 States-Oshoma
Political analyst Liborous Oshoma has explained how internal decisions worsened the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), especially the division between the faction linked to Nyesom Wike and the group associated with Seyi Makinde.
In a video shared by TVC News, according to Oshoma, the conflict began when Wike insisted on supporting the current president ahead of the 2027 election. This move led to suspicions among some PDP members, who believed he was weakening the party to give the president an advantage.
Oshoma noted that while this claim may seem believable, actions taken by Makinde and his allies made the situation worse. He pointed out that their refusal to conduct party congresses in 11 states created legal and structural problems. This decision, he said, eventually affected the legitimacy of the party’s convention held in Ibadan, where Umar Damagum emerged as chairman.
He further explained that Wike’s influence in the party did not start recently. During his time as governor, he was known as a major financier, with many politicians regularly seeking his support. This gave him strong control and political leverage within the PDP.
Oshoma also recalled that Makinde was once part of the G5 group alongside Wike. However, after the elections, some members began to realize the extent of Wike’s political strength and strategy.
In his words, “Seyi Makinde also played into the trap set by the Wike Faction, because the refusal to conduct Congresses in those 11 states also nullified the convention that they held in Ibadan.”
