FCT Poll: Nyesom Wike Did What I Would Not Call Unthinkable, But The Most Absurd Thing - Sowore
During an interview on Symfoni TV, human rights activist and politician Omoyele Sowore spoke about the recent FCT Local Government election, raising concerns about the political atmosphere and conduct of the poll.
According to Sowore, “Nyesom Wike did what I would not call unthinkable, but the most absurd thing,” he made the remark while criticizing actions he believes affected the credibility of the election. He alleged that certain decisions taken during the process undermined fairness and created tension across the capital city.
Speaking about developments in the Federal Capital Territory, Sowore claimed that movement was restricted in some areas on election day, describing the situation as excessive for a local government poll. He argued that the heavy presence of security operatives contributed to low voter turnout and discouraged citizens from participating freely in the democratic process.
He also expressed concerns about the overall management of the election, stating that transparency and neutrality are essential for public confidence. According to him, electoral processes must remain independent of political influence to ensure credibility and fairness. He further urged authorities responsible for overseeing elections to strengthen accountability mechanisms and guarantee that future polls are conducted in a more open and participatory manner.
Sowore maintained that citizens must remain engaged and vigilant in defending democratic values. He emphasized that improved electoral reforms, respect for institutional independence, and adherence to due process are necessary to restore trust in Nigeria’s democratic system and ensure that local government elections reflect the true will of the people.
