Akpoti: I’m Not Aware; | Assure You That You’re Going, If You Don’t Go I Will Not Go- Ireti Kingibe

During a Senate budget review session, Senator Natasha Akpoti raised concerns about being left out of an important international trip. The event is the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), a major global meeting in the United States focused on women’s issues worldwide.

In a video shared by Viable TV, Natasha explained that only a few female senators were selected for the trip. She felt excluded and treated unfairly, even though she is not under any suspension. She pointed out that there are just four women in the Senate, so unity matters. She learned about the trip very late, only the day before at 1 p.m, and quickly sent her passport details. But she was later told her response came too late, so she could not attend.

Senator Ireti Kingibe, who heads efforts related to women’s affairs, responded supportively. She said she personally checked with all the female senators. Some could not travel, so she made sure to include Natasha’s name to have more women represented. She added a few men to complete the team. Ireti stressed that no one on the team was late, and she was not aware of any message saying Natasha was excluded.

Ireti promised that Natasha was definitely part of the group. She gave a strong assurance: if Natasha does not get to go, she herself would also stay behind as a show of solidarity with her fellow female senator.

In her words, “I’m not aware, nobody has communicated to me, and I assure you that you’re going, if you don’t go, I will not go. That I say here as a woman.”
