The Coup Plot Led To Gen Musa’s Exit As CDS, He Was Victim Of Circumstance Because He Was CDS-Steve Okwori

Steve Okwori, Defence and Security analyst, has reacted after the Defence Headquarters disclosed that 16 officers were arrested in October 2025 for being involved in a plot to overthrow the government of President Tinubu. Okwori said the planned coup was what led to the exit of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff.

In an interview with Trust TV, Okwori said he believes that General Musa did not have prior knowledge about the planned coup. He stated that Musa only became a victim of circumstances because he was the Chief of Defence Staff at the time the plot was discovered.

In Okwori’s words: “That was what led to that planned coup and led to the exit of the current Minister of Defence that we have. Whether we like it or not that planned coup was what led to his exit. I want to believe that he doesn’t have knowledge about the planned coup, he only became a victim of circumstances because he was the Chief of Defense Staff”
