Fubara: In The Forthcoming Election, We Will Have Two Governorship Candidates From The APC - Nwala
Lawyer and activist Chetam Nwala recently spoke on TVC News about the intensifying political turmoil in Rivers State, linking the disputes between Governor Siminalayi Fubara, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and members of the State House of Assembly to larger battles for political control that may shape future elections.
According to Nwala, ongoing conflicts within the ruling party are already causing internal fractures. He stated, “In the forthcoming election, we will have two governorship candidates from the APC,” attributing this to rival political ambitions and unresolved tensions.
He noted that what started as disagreements between the state executive and the legislature has escalated into a struggle for dominance, threatening party unity and affecting governance. Nwala highlighted that impeachment threats, court interventions, and political maneuvering suggest the crisis is driven more by control over political structures than by constitutional concerns.
The activist further pointed out that the Rivers State House of Assembly appears influenced by outside forces, eroding public confidence in lawmakers’ independence. This perception, he said, has increased political anxiety and undermined the credibility of the legislature.
Nwala warned that if the conflict persists, it could diminish public trust in democratic institutions, leaving ordinary citizens to bear the consequences through stalled development and weakened governance. He concluded by urging dialogue and adherence to constitutional processes, cautioning that failure to resolve the crisis peacefully could entrench divisions within the APC and destabilize Rivers State’s political landscape.
