“If You Look At The Votes That Made Him To Win In Rivers, The Votes Were From Ikwerre-Wike

According to a report by The Sun on Sunday, December 28, 2025, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticised some recent supporters of President Bola Tinubu, describing them as individuals who only show loyalty when circumstances are already favourable.

He cautioned such supporters against offering sudden praise while ignoring commitments and sacrifices made earlier in the political journey.

Wike stressed that politics requires consistency, courage, and respect for agreements, rather than opportunistic alignment when power has been secured.

The minister made these remarks during special Christmas visits to Emohua and Ikwerre Local Government Areas of Rivers State.

The visits formed part of his engagement with local communities during the festive period, where he interacted with residents and political stakeholders.

His message focused on the importance of standing firm during uncertain times and recognising those who showed genuine support before electoral outcomes became clear.

While addressing people from Ikwerre, Wike recalled the period before the 2023 presidential election when the political future of Tinubu was uncertain.

He noted that many people were hesitant at the time, but the Ikwerre people chose to take a clear political position.

According to him, their decision was based on an understanding that politics involves calculated risks and long-term commitment rather than short-term convenience.

Wike further explained that the votes from Ikwerre played a significant role in Tinubu’s performance in Rivers State during the election.

He emphasised that early supporters should not be overshadowed by those who only became vocal after victory was secured.

The minister highlighted that genuine political loyalty is demonstrated through action, not slogans repeated after success has already been achieved.

He said, “In 2023 when it was difficult, when people never knew that Mr President will emerge as President, all of us from Ikwerre stock knew politics is about risk, we know that, if you look at the votes that made him to win in Rivers, the votes were particularly from Ikwerre.”
