We Have An Idea Where They Are’ — Senator Maidoki Says Rescue Of Kebbi Students Imminent
The Senator representing Kebbi South, Garba Maidoki, has expressed optimism that the schoolgirls abducted in Maga, Kebbi State, will return home soon, saying security agencies are closing in on the kidnappers.
Maidoki spoke on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, days after gunmen abducted about 25 students from the Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School in the area.
He said, “We have a fair idea where the girls are, and we are sure they have not moved outside the Kebbi South Senatorial District.
There is high hope that the girls will return home in one or two days.”
The attack, which occurred on Monday, also led to the killing of the school’s vice principal, who reportedly attempted to stop the armed men from abducting the students.
The Federal Government has since directed security agencies to launch a coordinated rescue operation.
Shettima Visits Kebbi, Reaffirms FG Commitment
Vice President, Kashim Shettima, acting on President Bola Tinubu’s directive, visited the state on Wednesday to commiserate with the community and assess ongoing rescue efforts.
Shettima’s aircraft landed at the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Birnin Kebbi earlier in the day, accompanied by APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, and other top officials.
The Vice President described the incident as “unfortunate” and assured that the Federal Government would deploy “all machineries of government” to ensure the girls’ safe return.
He also commended security agencies for their efforts so far, stressing that the rescue of the students remains a top priority for President Tinubu.
=The mass abduction has drawn widespread international concern, with UNICEF among the organisations calling for the immediate and safe release of the students.
The development has also led President Tinubu to postpone his scheduled foreign trips to South Africa and Angola as the government intensifies efforts to address the situation.
