Tinubu–Trump Meeting in U.S. unlikely as Attention Turns to G-20 Summit in South Africa for a possible meeting between both Presidents

President Bola Tinubu’s much-talked-about visit to the United States to meet with President Donald Trump is not expected to go ahead as earlier reported, SaharaReporters has learnt.

Sources within the Nigerian presidency confirmed on Monday that although discussions between Abuja and Washington are ongoing, there are currently no concrete plans for a face-to-face meeting between the two leaders in the U.S. capital.

A senior government official revealed that the G-20 Summit scheduled for November 20 in Durban, South Africa, is now being viewed as a more realistic setting for such an engagement.

“Talks between the Nigerian government and the White House are ongoing, but there’s no immediate plan for a Washington trip,” the source said. “However, President Tinubu has been invited to attend the G-20 Summit in South Africa, where a possible meeting with President Trump could take place.”

Earlier reports had claimed that both presidents were set to meet either in Abuja or Washington to discuss counterterr%rism and global security cooperation. The reports stemmed from comments by Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Media, who said both leaders share a mutual interest in the global fight against terr%rism and vi+lent extr+mism.
