PDP: I Apologize to Nigerians for the Shameful Incident at Our Secretariat - Turnah
Bayelsa PDP Chieftain George Turnah has apologized for the events that occurred at the PDP Secretariat in Abuja, where different factions of the party clashed. Speaking on Arise TV, Turnah provided background on what led to the clash, revealing that it was due to disobedience of a court order. He described the chain of events at the secretariat, which included police involvement and the use of tear gas, as shameful. He said:
“Let me start by offering my apologies to Nigerians on behalf of the party and all who represent the PDP, because what happened in our secretariat yesterday was very shameful.”
He further explained that the confusion was caused by a few members who had decided to disobey the court order issued by the Federal High Court in Abuja. Instead, they went ahead not only to hold the convention but also to appoint new leaders.
The main point of contention arose when the members who attended the convention reached a resolution to expel Nyesom Wike and others on grounds of anti-party activities. He revealed that the logical course of action for a party guided by the rule of law would have been to appeal the judgment of the Federal High Court and wait for a new ruling, but they did not. He added:
“We thought that a party guided by the rule of law would abide by the decision of the Federal High Court.”
