US president Donald Trump has criticized the Nigerian government, describing the k+lling of Christians in the country as a “g+nocide.” During a conservative radio interview on Friday, highlighted by Fox News, Trump accused Nigeria of failing to curb extremist vi%lence and warned that the US may take further action if the situation does not improve.
He added that American aid to Nigeria could be halted if the situation continues and reiterated the possibility of military intervention against Islamist militants if the Nigerian government fails to protect Christian communities.
Saharareporters reported that the US War Department is working closely with Nigeria to combat jihadist att+cks. The secretary of the War Department stated on X that he met with Nigeria’s National Security Advisor and his team to discuss the ongoing vi%lence against Christians.
This followed a meeting in Washington, D.C., between Congressman Riley M. Moore and a Nigerian delegation led by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu. Other members included Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Bianca Ojukwu, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, and other senior officials.
The discussion focused on counterterrorism, security assistance, protection of vulnerable communities, and ongoing violence. Moore emphasized that the US stands ready to cooperate with Nigeria, and that President Trump does not make idle threats. He added that he will continue monitoring developments and urge Nigeria to accept US support to end the persecution of Christians and combat t+rrorist thr+ats.
