Ejimakor Rejects ‘Terr+rist’ Label on Nnamdi Kanu as Bello El-Rufai Slams Unequal Justice
The Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, Aloy Ejimakor, has dismissed claims that the detained IPOB leader should be regarded as a terr+rist.
In a brief post on X, Ejimakor insisted that court rulings alone cannot define Kanu’s identity.
“While commending Hon. Bello El-Rufai for condemning the cruel & unusual penalty slammed on MAZI NNAMDI KANU, let it be clear that #MNK is not a terr+rist simply because the court labelled him as one. Mandela was also labelled a terr+rist but he triumphed. MNK shall also triumph,” he wrote.
His remarks followed Hon. Muhammad Bello El-Rufai’s criticism of what he described as inconsistent justice in high-profile security cases. During plenary, El-Rufai questioned why convicted Boko Haram member Hussaini Ismail received 20 years, while Kanu was handed a life sentence a week earlier.
“I don’t understand why one terr+rist gets 20 years and the other gets life,” he said, warning that such disparities could deepen insecurity and fuel public distrust.
Backing President Tinubu’s new security plan, El-Rufai argued that Nigeria’s real challenge is implementation rather than policy announcements. He urged lawmakers to enforce strict timelines and called for improved welfare for security personnel, noting that one police officer currently handles about 600 Nigerians—far above UN recommendations.
He further pressed for decentralised policing, insisting that Abuja cannot effectively coordinate nationwide security operations. He urged the National Assembly to speed up reforms enabling state police.
