B@ndits Abd¥ct 24 Farmers, Att@ck Blind Resident in Niger State Amid Rising Insecurity

In a surge of v%olent att@cks in Niger State, b@ndits have abd¥cted 24 farmers, including pregnant women, from a rice farm in Palaita community, Erena Ward, Shiroro Local Government Area. The attack occurred around 2:00 pm on Wednesday, while residents were harvesting crops, despite a military base located just five kilometers away.

Eyewitnesses said the assa+lants struck swiftly, overpowering the farmers before fleeing with their captives.

Earlier the same day, a separate a+sa¥lt took place in nearby Kakuru community, where bandits targeted a blind resident at his home. After seizing a mobile phone he claimed belonged to a neighbor, the att@ckers amp¥tated his right hand in a fit of rage. The victim is receiving first aid at a patent medicine shop in Kuduru community.

Niger State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed that the police received reports on November 26 of suspected armed men abd¥cting about ten persons from Angwan-Kawo and Kuchipa villages in Shiroro. He assured that efforts to rescue the victims are ongoing.

These incidents come amid a troubling rise in b@nditry in the state. Just days earlier, on November 21, two farmers were k+lled and four abducted in Kwara State, while Shiroro has witnessed multiple attacks this month, including the k+lling of 13 farmers and the abd¥ction of dozens of residents.

The broader security situation in northern Nigeria remains precarious, with the recent abduction of over 300 students and teachers from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri highlighting the ongoing threat to rural communities.
