Wike: In the Community of Blind, One-Eyed Man Becomes the King, Best Among All FCT Ministers - Opara

In a brutally frank assessment of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, analyst Maxwell Opara delivered a mixed but damning verdict, labeling Wike the “best among all” recent ministers while simultaneously qualifying the performance with a metaphorical critique.

“If you should ask me, he has been the best among all,” Opara stated on Symfoni TV. “Where they, in the community of the blind, one eye man becomes the king.”

The controversial analogy, delivered by Opara during the discussion, underscored the speaker’s belief that while Wike is outpacing his predecessors, the standard for performance remains exceptionally low.

Opara credited the Minister for his unwavering work ethic and commitment to project follow-up, suggesting that unlike previous office holders, Wike personally ensures that contractors fulfill their mandates.

This drive has led to palpable progress in the FCT within a short period, including visible infrastructure work and commissioning of projects.

A significant positive noted was Wike’s swift action on land administration, particularly the drive to clear the backlog of Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) for residents. Furthermore, the Minister was commended for threatening to revoke land titles from those who acquired plots but failed to develop them, a move aimed at curbing speculative hoarding and promoting physical development.

On security, Wike was lauded for immediately addressing a spate of kidnappings, although Opara cautioned that the issue has begun to creep back.

However, the praise was heavily tempered by serious allegations of character flaws and administrative issues. Opara did not shy away from accusations that Wike “may be corrupt,” “arrogant,” or “autocratic”, noting these traits are personally disliked.

Furthermore, the speaker reported that personnel within the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) have complained that Wike operates a restricted administration, working only with the Director of Land and Director of Development Control, and neglecting other key staff.
