I don’t feel fully free in America… all the best ‘men’ I know end up in jail. But in Nigeria, I feel completely free — Burna Boy

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Burna Boy, has once again expressed his deep attachment to Nigeria while sharing his views on freedom and life abroad.

When asked in a recent interview how he feels about living in America compared to Nigeria, the “Last Last” crooner responded, “I like freedom, and the definition of freedom is in my country.”

He went on to explain that although he enjoys aspects of living in the U.S., he doesn’t feel completely free there. “I can never be fully free here, if I could though,” he said, adding humorously, “’Cause N+gg+s go to jail — like all the best Nigg+s I know go to jail, and I know that’s not what I’m trying to do.”

Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, is known for his outspoken nature and his pride in African identity. The Afro-fusion star has built a global fan base with hits that blend Afrobeat, reggae, and dancehall, all while using his platform to speak on issues of freedom, culture, and self-expression.
