Coalition Mobilises For Protest Over Wike’s Alleged $6m Florida Homes, Writes Police, DSS

A coalition of rights activists and anti-corruption groups from Northern and Southern Nigeria are gearing up for a mass protest over three multimillion-dollar lakeside properties in Winter Springs, Florida, United States worth $6 million allegedly purchased by Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

The group acting under the aegis of Concerned Nigerians for Transparency and Justice (CNTJ) has scheduled the protest to commence on Thursday, October 23, in Abuja, the nation’s capital city, to press for Wike’s suspension from office by President Bola Tinubu and investigation of corruption allegations against him by the relevant security and anti-graft agencies.

A letter dated September 12, 2025, from the organisers to the Commissioner of Police, FCT, titled, ‘Request for Security Support for a Peaceful Protest in Abuja’, reads in part: “The purpose of this protest is to call on His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to direct the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike, to step aside and clear his name regarding the allegations against him in the State of Florida, United States of America.

“Furthermore, we shall demand that President Tinubu should direct the relevant financial crime regulatory agencies to thoroughly investigate the allegations against the Honourable Minister, in the same manner that the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Ms. Betta Edu, was suspended pending investigation.

This will reaffirm the president’s commitment to fighting corruption at all levels”. The letter was jointly signed by Comrades Abacha Ali and Muhammed Isah, President and Vice President, respectively, of the CNTJ.

However, in another letter to the FCT police commissioner, dated October 7, 2025, the organisers said the protest which was initially slated for October 6, had been shifted to October 23, 2025.

“Further to our letter dated 29th September, 2025, on the above-mentioned subject matter, we write to notify you of a shift on the date of our planned protest earlier scheduled to hold on Monday, 6th October, 2025 in Abuja. The new date shall be the 23rd of October, 2025…”

A letter conveying the new date which was signed by the president of the coalition, Abacha Ali, was also sent to the Director, Department of State Services, DSS, FCT Command. Recall that human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, had petitioned the Attorney General of Florida, James Uthmeier, seeking forfeiture and prosecution over properties allegedly acquired by Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

In the petition dated September 22, 2025, Sowore’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, alleged that Wike and his wife, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike of Nigeria’s Court of Appeal, secretly purchased three multimillion-dollar lakeside properties in Winter Springs, Florida, worth over $6 million.

The homes, bought in cash between July 2021 and September 2023, were later transferred via quitclaim deeds to their children, Jordan, Joaquin, and Jazmyne.
