Smiles return to the faces of Nigerians as Dangote Refinery resumes petrol sales in Naira after FG intervened
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reinstated the sale of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in naira, less than 24 hours after announcing a suspension.
The reversal followed the intervention of Dr. Zacch Adedeji, Chairman of the Naira for Crude Transaction Committee and Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
The federal government introduced the naira-for-crude arrangement through the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to supply crude oil to domestic refineries. However, the initiative has struggled with limited crude availability.
On Friday, Dangote Refinery notified customers that it would stop selling PMS in naira effective Sunday, September 28, 2025, citing sales beyond its approved crude allocation, which it said was unsustainable.
But within 24 hours, the refinery issued a counter-notice, confirming that naira payments would continue.
The statement to customers read:
“Following the intervention of the Naira for Crude Transaction Committee Chairman, we are pleased to inform you of the resumption of PMS sales in naira, effective immediately. Orders can now be placed in naira for both self-collection and free delivery to designated locations nationwide. We appreciate your continued patronage.”
