Onochie Reacts As Jonathan Meets ADC Chairman, Calls for Collective Effort to Rebuild Nigeria

Lauretta Onochie, former media aide to the late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has expressed optimism following the meeting between former President Goodluck Jonathan and the chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark.

In a post shared on her official X handle, Onochie described the engagement as a positive development, highlighting its potential impact on Nigeria’s political future.

She noted that the coalition is not made up of perfect individuals but of leaders who have previously held positions of power, made mistakes, and learned valuable lessons from their experiences. According to her, such people, with the benefit of hindsight, are better positioned to contribute meaningfully to shaping Nigeria’s future.

Onochie commended Jonathan for his continued service to the nation since leaving office in 2015. She particularly praised his role as an envoy to West Africa under President Buhari’s administration, stating that his contributions on regional peace and diplomacy have been commendable. She believes that this record of service demonstrates Jonathan’s readiness to work with others in pursuit of national renewal.

Furthermore, she emphasized the importance of Jonathan collaborating with other key political figures to rebuild Nigeria. She listed several influential leaders, including Senator David Mark, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Labour Party presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami (SAN), and former Minister of State for Education Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba.

According to Onochie, the convergence of these figures, despite their varied political backgrounds and histories, presents a unique opportunity to unite for the common goal of rebuilding the nation. She described this as the dawn of a “new Nigeria,” urging collaboration, inclusiveness, and reconciliation as the path forward.
