Fubara Has Started Well By Dissolving State Pensions Board, He Must Also Dissolve RSIEC - Chukwumele

Chief Sunny Chukwumele, an elder statesman and convener of the Rivers State Leaders of Thought, has commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for taking an early step in restructuring the state government, as reported by Punch on Sunday, September 28, 2025.

‎Chukwumele said dissolving the State Pensions Board was a positive move that demonstrates the governor’s commitment to reforming key state institutions.

According to Chukwumele, this initial action sets a precedent for further necessary changes in the state.

‎He specifically urged Fubara to dissolve the board of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), describing it as a critical next step for the administration.

‎He noted that reforming this body would help strengthen governance and public confidence in the electoral process at the state level.

‎The elder statesman stated that such actions are essential for ensuring transparency, accountability, and efficiency in state institutions.

He explained that taking decisive steps early in his tenure would help Fubara address structural issues left unresolved during the previous administration and ensure that the state’s governance framework operates smoothly.

‎Chukwumele highlighted that dissolving the Pensions Board shows the governor is serious about removing inefficiencies and potential corruption from state agencies.

‎He said residents and political stakeholders would be closely watching for further reforms, stressing that the dissolution of the Independent Electoral Commission board would be equally important for consolidating good governance.

He noted that restructuring state boards and commissions is a process that requires careful planning and deliberate action.

‎Chukwumele urged the governor to follow through with similar reforms across other key state institutions to restore public trust and strengthen democratic governance.

‎”Fubara has started well by dissolving the State Pensions Board. He must also dissolve the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) and other actions that will come from there,” he said.
