Police Officer Sh++ts Army Warrant Officer D+ad in Bauchi

A Nigerian Army officer, Master Warrant Officer (MWO) Ali Haruna, has been k+lled by a mobile police inspector, Yusuf Ibrahim, in Futuk, Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The incident occurred on August 25 around 7:50 p.m., when troops of the 33 Artillery Brigade stopped a truck suspected of transporting illegally mined solid minerals at a checkpoint in Futuk. The truck, with registration number Gombe 676 BLG, was reportedly being escorted by Inspector Ibrahim.

According to details shared by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the truck driver initially ignored orders to stop, forcing Haruna and his team to pursue the vehicle on motorbikes until it was intercepted. Upon halting, Ibrahim allegedly opened f+re on Haruna, sh++ting him in the stomach.

“The soldiers immediately overpowered the policeman and disarmed him, while the inj¥red officer was rushed to the Gombe Specialist Hospital for urgent medical treatment,” Makama posted. “He later d+ed from the g¥nsh+t wo¥nd. Sources further disclosed that the truck driver escaped in the chaos that followed.”

Preliminary investigations suggest the truck was loaded with solid minerals illegally extracted from Yalo community, also in Alkaleri LGA, and that the police inspector was on an unlawful escort duty.

Observers have described the circumstances—ranging from the driver’s refusal to stop, to the inspector’s decision to open fire on soldiers, and the driver’s escape—as highly suspicious.

Meanwhile, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police has met with Brig.-Gen. U.J. Simon, Commander of the 33 Artillery Brigade, to defuse tensions and ensure the matter is thoroughly investigated.
