Nigerian student sets a new record as he bags the highest A-level result in the UK
An 18-year-old Nigerian student, Abiola Abidoye, has achieved the highest A-Level grade in the United Kingdom for law.
Abidoye, who studied at One Sixth Form College in Ipswich, earned A* grades in maths, further maths, law, and physics. In law, he scored an impressive 224 out of 240 marks across three papers—despite admitting it was not his strongest subject.
“I am really pleased,” he said. “Maths and physics are my strong suit, but I did law because it’s my passion. I’m very passionate about different types of law—even ones we didn’t study, like human rights. It was just a fun lesson I wanted to do, and I wasn’t expecting to do so well.”
The teenager was stunned to learn he had secured the best law result nationwide. “I was very surprised… I saw that result before my others, and I was already nervous waiting for them. I put in an immense amount of work, staying up to ungodly hours. I put a lot of pressure on myself, but I’m happy with the outcome.”
He also credited his teachers for their role in his success: “The teachers at One Sixth Form College were wonderful and helped me a lot.”
Abidoye is set to continue his academic journey by studying mathematics at university, with ambitions of pursuing a career in banking or finance.
