Document Exposes Wike’s False Claim on PDP NEC Meeting, Ibadan Convention

Fresh evidence has revealed that a recent remark by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, regarding his participation in the affairs of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was false.

Wike, during a television interview on Tuesday, claimed he had not been invited to the forthcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and denied knowledge of the planned national convention in Ibadan.

However, documents released by the PDP suggest otherwise. A letter dated July 10, 2025, and signed by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel N. Anyanwu, formally invited Wike to the 101st NEC meeting scheduled for July 24, 2025, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

The document, stamped by Wike’s office on July 18, acknowledged receipt at 3:19 p.m., contradicting his assertion that no formal communication had reached him.

“On behalf of the National Working Committee (NWC) of our great party, kindly accept our highest consideration and esteemed regards,” the letter read in part.

Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, Wike dismissed reports of a convention, saying:

“Have they given a date for Ibadan? When did NEC agree on that? Nobody has invited me to a NEC meeting for me to say that NEC has sat.”

He further argued that any such gathering could not qualify as a legitimate NEC decision.

Meanwhile, the PDP had on Monday announced a 110-member organising committee to oversee its elective national convention slated for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan.

The committee is chaired by Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and includes governors, former governors, and senior party leaders. Wike’s name, however, was not on the list.
