Peter Obi Turns Down N140M Birthday Gifts, Redirects Funds to Education in Anambra

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has shared how he declined lavish birthday gifts worth over ₦140 million, choosing instead to support educational development.

Obi revealed that he rejected a ₦120 million house offer on his birthday, asking that the money be used to construct classrooms in three communities: Agulu, Ekwulobia, and Abatete. He also turned down a ₦20 million birthday celebration, preferring the funds be channeled into providing 200 desktop computers to schools across Anambra State.

Known for his modest lifestyle, Peter Obi has previously said he owns just one wristwatch he’s worn for 17 years and two pairs of black shoes. On his 64th birthday, he spent the day in Rome praying for Nigeria and its leaders, calling on citizens to focus on meaningful contributions rather than personal extravagance.
