As Far As He Is Concerned, These Are Two Northerners Who Cheated Me; We’ll Teach Them A Lesson-Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed
In a no-holds-barred interview on Arise TV, Labour Party vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, offered an unfiltered view into the motivations of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, particularly regarding his ongoing political maneuvers and perceived interference in both the PDP and Labour Party.
Dr. Baba-Ahmed suggested that Wike’s actions stem from a deep sense of betrayal he felt during the PDP primaries and the events that followed. While not justifying the minister’s conduct, Datti provided a psychological lens into Wike’s political aggression, explaining that the former Rivers State governor felt undermined and abandoned by those he considered allies in the north.
“As far as he is concerned, these are two Northerners who cheated me; we’ll teach them a lesson,” Datti said, describing Wike’s mindset following the controversial fallout within the PDP which many believe led him to align with the APC.
According to Datti, Wike is acting out of a sense of personal vendetta, shaped by what he views as a political backstab from key northern politicians during the PDP’s presidential primary and subsequent general election. This, Datti said, explains Wike’s present alignment with the Tinubu administration and his alleged role in destabilizing the opposition.
While maintaining a critical stance on Wike’s political choices, Datti emphasized that understanding such motivations is crucial in mapping a strategic response, warning that unchecked personal grudges in politics can breed wider instability. He called for vigilance, smarter politics, and unity within the Labour Party to resist what he described as coordinated attempts to weaken the opposition.
