Sen Godswill Akpabio Reacts as Wike Says the Senator Did Not Do Well as Minister of Niger Delta

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has addressed the criticism from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, who had earlier stated that Akpabio did not excel during his tenure as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs.

In a video shared by Channels Television, Akpabio connected Wike’s perspective to the political disparities stemming from the internal power dynamics and tensions that characterised the last administration in Rivers State.

At the inauguration of the Kugbo Bus Terminal in the FCT, Akpabio publicly addressed the issue. He believes that Wike’s failure to give him a high rating was shaped by what he referred to as “small local politics” in Rivers, along with Wike’s discontent with the composition of the Buhari administration, especially in relation to Rivers State’s representation.

He stated, “I understand that due to minor local politics in Rivers, he won’t be able to give me a high rating for my time as Minister of Niger Delta, as he disapproved of that administration because of the local content from Rivers State involved in it.” He is also conscious that even the local representatives in that administration from Rivers State attempted to hinder my efforts.
