Fubara: He met with Wike, who told him to meet with other aggrieved members- Rivers Assembly member

The ongoing political conflict in Rivers State has once again taken center stage as the State’s House of Representatives caucus voiced criticism against Senator Seriake Dickson for his position on the emergency rule. Meanwhile, fresh efforts are reportedly underway by the suspended Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, to reconcile with his former political ally and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

In a report by The Nation, Fubara recently paid a visit to Wike at his Abuja residence in what is believed to be a step towards mending broken political ties. The visit was said to have occurred amid increasing public pressure and calls for Fubara’s reinstatement. Although the specific discussions held during the meeting were not disclosed, it has been interpreted by many as a sign of his willingness to rebuild fractured alliances.

Supporters of the embattled governor were reportedly hopeful that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would use his Democracy Day address at the National Assembly to announce the end of the emergency rule and reinstate Fubara. However, that expectation did not materialize, leaving the political situation in Rivers still unresolved.

Despite his meeting with Wike and subsequent visit to President Tinubu, sources say that Fubara has yet to reach out to members of the state legislature who were also suspended under the emergency rule. This omission has been viewed by some insiders as a significant oversight, especially given the importance of the legislature in restoring functional governance in the state.

A senior figure in the suspended House of Assembly revealed that Fubara was previously advised to engage all aggrieved stakeholders but has not followed through since his initial meetings with Wike and Tinubu. The source expressed doubts that Fubara’s recent activities would be sufficient to restore him to office, emphasizing the unresolved issues with the budget and legislative arm of the state.

In his remarks: “You will recall that he met with his predecessor and Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, who told him to meet with other aggrieved stakeholders. He met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after meeting with Nyesom Wike. But since then, he has not met with anybody."
