Coalition: We’re Coming Together And We’ll Win 2027, Nigeria Will Certainly Witness Change-Amaechi.
Rotimi Amaechi, a former Transportation Minister and influential APC leader, has declared his readiness to align with an opposition coalition against President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections, Orange Report.
During an interview with the BBC, Amaechi criticized the government over rising levels of hunger and economic hardship. While confirming he is still part of the All Progressives Congress (APC), he said he won’t support the administration uncritically.
Amaechi expressed concern for the worsening plight of Nigerians, stating that people are dying from hunger and insecurity. He shared a personal experience of seeing a corpse by the roadside, which he believed was the result of severe food scarcity. He noted that he, too, has felt the pressure of rising living costs.
He said discussions are ongoing with other concerned Nigerians to form a strong political movement capable of challenging the status quo in 2027. Although undecided on whether he will contest the presidency again, Amaechi confirmed that he still has valuable contributions to make.
Other major political actors, such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and former Tinubu ally Nasir El-Rufai, are reportedly involved in talks to build a unified opposition coalition.
Amaechi warned that without strong voices pushing back, Nigeria risks sliding into a one-party state. He condemned the stagnation under the current administration and pointed to key national challenges, including the increase in out-of-school children, kidnapping, and unresolved farmer-herder violence.
Drawing a connection between the rise of Boko Haram and widespread poverty, he argued that silence in the face of poor governance is unacceptable—even when it involves one’s own political party. “It’s wrong to stay quiet simply because you’re in the ruling party,” he said.
He concluded by expressing hope that a collective political effort could lead to real change for Nigeria by 2027.
