Gov Radda Spends Just N3 Billion on 8 Borehole Projects in Katsina LG
Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has commissioned eight borehole-based water supply projects worth N3.08 billion in Katsina Local Government Area.
The inauguration, held on Thursday as part of activities marking his administration’s second anniversary, aims to provide clean and reliable water to communities in the area. Radda described the project as a fulfilled promise to the people of Katsina.
He emphasized that since assuming office, his administration has made substantial investments in the water sector, targeting both urban and rural needs. He also mentioned ongoing water projects worth over N25 billion under the World Bank-supported SURWASH initiative, which are at various stages of completion across the state.
Radda announced plans for the second phase of the Zobe Dam extension and highlighted policy reforms, including the review of the outdated 1971 Water Board Edict, aligning it with global standards to improve efficiency, accountability, and sustainability.
“Our focus on water security aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 6, which advocates universal access to clean water and sanitation,” the governor said.
Speaking earlier, the Managing Director of the state water board, Tukur Hassan-Tingilin, said the projects were executed in eight locations, including Sabuwar Unguwa, Rahamawa/Abattoir, Makera Quarters, Behind NYSC, Tudun Yan Lihidda, Dutsen Safe, Barhim Estate, and FMC Housing Estate.
He noted that approximately 70,000 residents are expected to benefit from at least six hours of daily water supply. To ensure long-term sustainability, water committees and grievance redress committees have been established in each beneficiary community.
