Senator Natasha:This woman is just continuing to show the loneliness of the Nigerian political elites - Akande

Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a Nigerian senator, has been at the center of a heated controversy in recent times.

According to an interview on Channels TV, Laolu Akande criticized the Nigerian political elite, particularly men, for their inability to lead effectively.

He claims that it is due to the isolation of these leaders from the people they’re supposed to serve.

According to Akande, these leaders have risen to power without truly earning the trust of their constituents, and as a result, they act with impunity, disregarding the feelings and needs of the people.

The controversy began when Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexually harassing her during a courtesy visit in December 2023.

Despite the backlash, Akpoti-Uduaghan remained defiant, submitting a petition to the Senate, urging her colleagues to investigate her claims against Akpabio.

However, the petition was dismissed, with the Senate citing that it was invalid because it was signed by Akpoti-Uduaghan herself.

The dismissal of the petition led to widespread criticism, with many Nigerians accusing the Senate of attempting to silence Akpoti-Uduaghan.

In his words, “This woman is just continuing to show the very loneliness of the Nigerian political elites, especially a lot of these men. It’s just a shame they don’t know how to manage things properly.

You know people who get up to the level of leadership at that level where they are now, they ought to know how to do things properly. But because of the level of impunity, and the disregard for the feelings of the people, and the fact that a lot of them aspire and get to position of authority without real legitimacy, that’s why they behave in this very manner.”
