‘Our Ancestors Chose You To Restore Edo’s Lost Glory,’ Oba Of Benin Hails Okpebholo’s Tribunal Victory
The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, has declared that Governor Monday Okpebholo was divinely chosen by the ancestors to restore Edo State’s lost glory.
Oba Ewuare made the statement on Thursday when Okpebholo paid a solidarity visit to his palace in Benin following his victory at the Edo Governorship Election Tribunal, which upheld his election.
Describing Okpebholo as a true traditional son of the land, the monarch prayed for blessings upon him and his household for standing against the machinations of evildoers. In an uncommon gesture, the Oba lifted the governor from his kneeling position, foreseeing a tenure that would usher in more development for the state.
Speaking in Edo language, the Oba said, “It shall be well with you, your wife, and children. Your journey to Edo, our ancestors approved it. Our ancestors brought you to restore the lost glory of Edo State, which evil doers wanted to ruin. We have been praying, and we will continue to pray for you, not to allow evil forces to destroy Edo.”
In response, Okpebholo expressed gratitude for the Oba’s support and prayers. He described his tribunal victory as historic and “the sweetest judgment ever”, highlighting the rare unanimity of the three-member panel.
“This is the first time we have seen a judgment where all the judges agreed that Monday Okpebholo won the election,” the governor stated.
