JAMB Uncovers 142 Fake A-Level Results in Kano Varsity Admissions
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has uncovered a shocking case of admission fraud at Bayero University, Kano (BUK), revealing that 142 out of 148 A-Level results submitted for Direct Entry admission were forged.
According to JAMB’s weekly bulletin, only six results were authentic, prompting renewed warnings to institutions on the importance of thorough document verification. The fraud was detected using the Nigeria Integrated Post-Secondary Education Data System (NIPEDS), a platform created two years ago in response to concerns raised by BUK.
JAMB stated that the fake results included certificates from foreign institutions and forged IJMBE results from ABU Zaria, with some candidates attempting to use them to gain admission into ABU itself.
The board disclosed that 13 additional fake A-Level certificates were recently detected across other institutions, with some schools already offering admission based on the fraudulent documents.
All candidates involved have been handed over to law enforcement agencies for prosecution, while JAMB has warned universities that accepting such candidates would make them accomplices in fraud.
JAMB urged institutions to take active responsibility for verifying all credentials, stating that NIPEDS alone cannot stop the spread of fake certificates without collaboration from the schools.
