Court Restrains Akpabio, Natasha Akpoti, and Senate from Public Comments on Misconduct Case
The Federal High Court in Abuja has barred Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, and the Senate from making public statements, granting media interviews, or posting on social media about the ongoing case regarding Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension until a final decision is reached.
Justice Binta Nyako issued the ruling on Friday, restricting both the involved parties and their legal representatives from commenting on the matter.
Earlier, Justice Obiora Egwuatu had withdrawn from the case following allegations of bias raised by one of the defendants. The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, John Tsoho, later reassigned the case to Justice Nyako.
Akpoti-Uduaghan had filed an ex parte motion (FHC/ABJ/CS/384/2025) against the Clerk of the National Assembly, the Senate, the Senate President, and Senator Neda Imasuem, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct.
She sought an interim injunction to halt the Senate committee’s investigation into her alleged misconduct during the February 20 plenary session, which was referred for review on February 25, pending the court’s ruling on her request for an interlocutory injunction.
