Akpabio Denies Involvement in Senator Abbo’s Removal, Calls Allegation Baseless
In a statement issued by his media aide, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio said it was regrettable that Abbo had returned to making baseless accusations despite previously apologizing in 2023 and admitting that the Senate President had no involvement in the court’s decision.
Abbo was removed by the Court of Appeal on October 16, 2023, which declared his election invalid and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize Amos Yohanna of the PDP as the duly elected senator.
Akpabio insisted that the judiciary, not him, determined Abbo’s fate, and criticized the former lawmaker for blaming others instead of accepting the court’s verdict. He also refuted claims that Abbo was denied official benefits, stating that any such requests must meet legal standards.
The Senate President reaffirmed his commitment to national development and urged Abbo to respect the rule of law rather than engage in “media theatrics.”
