Wike Is Busy Scraping Already Paved Roads In FCT While Teacher Are Unpaid And Kids Are Home-Odinkalu
In a post on his official X account, Chidi Odinkalu, a law professor and former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, has criticized the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) administration under Minister Nyesom Wike.
Odinkalu accused Wike of focusing on unnecessary projects instead of addressing important issues.
He said the government was scraping already paved roads and awarding contracts to close associates.
The @FCT_Abj admin under @GovWike is busy scraping already paved roads and dishing out crony contracts. Meanwhile, public school teachers are unpaid and kids in public schools are home. @adah_obi and the team in @officialPrimorg explain what this means for the city and the country,” Odinkalu wrote.
His statement has brought reactions from Nigerians on social media, many residents of Abuja have also complained about road projects that seem unnecessary.
Some say the government should focus on more pressing problems, such as education and healthcare.
Public school teachers in Abuja have been protesting over unpaid salaries, many schools have remained closed, leaving students at home.
Parents have also expressed concerns about their children’s education being affected.
Critics of Wike’s administration say that awarding contracts for roads that are already in good condition is a waste of public funds, arguing that the government should use the money to pay teachers and improve schools.
