Tension In Rivers State As Okrika Women Launch Protest Againt Ibok-Ete Ibas’ Appointment
Tension gripped Okrika Local Government Area in Rivers State as women took to the streets in a passionate protest against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, demanding the reinstatement of their suspended governor, Siminalayi Fubara. Their anger was not just directed at Tinubu but also at Ibok-Ete Ibas, imposed as the state’s sole administrator.
Chanting slogans and carrying banners, the women decried what they called an attack on democracy. “Why remove a governor who has worked for the people?” one protester cried. “Fubara’s only crime is ensuring good governance.” They pointed to his tangible impacts, from long-overdue promotions for civil servants to the restoration of essential services like the fire department.
“For eight years, we saw no progress,” lamented Esther Amadi.
“Fubara came and changed lives—people now have food, salaries have improved, and we feel hope again.” The women vowed not to back down, disrupting daily activities in Okrika as they insisted on Fubara’s return.
