Rivers Crisis: How Did He Lodge in Transcorp on 500K Salary? - Ehie Slams Nwaeke

The former Rivers State House of Assembly leader and current Chief of Staff to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Edison Ehie, has strongly denied allegations that the governor ordered the bombing of the state Assembly complex in 2023.

Dr. George Nwaeke, the former Head of the Rivers State Civil Service, recently accused the suspended governor of orchestrating the attack to prevent his impeachment by lawmakers loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. Nwaeke claimed he personally witnessed a bag of money being handed over to Ehie before the attack on the Assembly complex in Port Harcourt.

Responding to these claims in an interview with Channels Television, Ehie dismissed the allegations as baseless and questioned Nwaeke’s credibility. He emphasized that he had no involvement in the burning of the Assembly complex.

“It is very important to clarify that I was not, I had no hand in the burning down of the Rivers State Assembly,” Ehie stated firmly.

Ehie also alleged that Nwaeke’s accusations stemmed from personal dissatisfaction over financial matters following his voluntary resignation from office.

“Clearly, the world has seen that George Nwaeke wasn’t in his right frame of mind. The problem is that of contentment. George Nwaeke is not a contented man. He said his basic salary is less than 500,000 naira, then I want Nigerians to ask him how was he able to lodge in Transcorp,” he added.

The controversy surrounding the Rivers State political crisis continues to deepen, with the rivalry between factions loyal to Fubara and Wike creating tension in the state’s governance. The bombing incident, which remains a subject of investigation, has further intensified the political struggle between both camps.

As reactions pour in, many Nigerians are calling for an independent inquiry into the claims and counterclaims to establish the truth behind the Assembly complex attack. Meanwhile, Governor Fubara’s administration has yet to officially comment on the latest accusations against him.
