I was offered N5bn to coordinate Fubara’s impeachment, says Edison Ehie

Ehie Edison, the Chief of Staff to suspended Rivers State Governor, has revealed that he was offered N5 billion in October 2023 to support the impeachment of the governor but refused the offer.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Ehie described the move as part of a grand plot to destabilize the government.

“I was offered N5 billion to impeach the governor, but I rejected it because of my loyalty and integrity.”

Ehie also addressed allegations that he was involved in the burning of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex. He strongly denied any connection to the incident, stating that he only became aware of it when it was reported.

“It is very important to clarify that I was not, I had no hand, and was not part of the burning down of the Rivers State House of Assembly.”

He dismissed accusations made by former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, who alleged that both Governor Fubara and Ehie orchestrated the incident.

“I have already instructed my lawyers to file an issue of criminal libel against him, and I hope he is very prepared to substantiate his claims and his allegations.”

“The problem is that of contentment. George Nwaeke is not a contented man.”

Ehie also pointed to testimonies given at the Federal High Court, stating that multiple security personnel attached to the Assembly confirmed under oath that Martin Amaewhule's convoy drove to the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex on October 29, 2023.

“Before the Federal High Court, over 10 witnesses, who are security personnel attached to the Assembly, testified under oath that Martin Amaewhule’s convoy drove to the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex on October 29, 2023.”

He further insisted that Amaewhule should be investigated in connection with the fire incident.

“Martin Amaewhule should be questioned over the burning down of the Rivers State House of Assembly Hallowed Chambers.”

On the reconstruction of the burnt Assembly complex, Ehie clarified that work is 80% complete, and the contractor handling the project has been fully paid. He refuted claims that the governor had abandoned the project.
