Rivers: ‘Your Umbilical Cord Is Not Buried Here, You Have To Leave The Place’ - Siminalayi Fubara
The Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has characterized the governorship position as a transitional role. He stated that current governors should be focused on meaningful impact in their states rather than seeking for an absolute power after leaving office.
In a broadcast by Symfoni TV, Fubara described political office as inherently temporary: “This job is a shift job. When you’re there, you do the best you can do, and you do it in such a way that what you have done will speak for you when you’re no longer there,” he stated.
The governor emphasized the importance of recognizing leadership’s temporary nature as a governor: “You must realize that you have to leave the place. Your umbilical cord is not buried here; you have to leave the place.”
He emphasized that a leader’s mindset significantly influences their governance approach. He advocated for a leadership style rooted in compassion and genuine care. According to him, leaders should earn respect through love and not demanding it through force. His remarks come amid ongoing political developments in Rivers State, with the governor’s perspective suggesting a focus on sustainable impact over personal power consolidation.
