Nigerian Senate Confirms Appointment Of Bianca Ojukwu, Tinubu’s Six Other Ministerial Nominees


The lawmakers earlier on Tuesday screened the ministers after postponing the exercise, which was earlier slated for yesterday (Tuesday).


The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointment seven ministers nominated by President Bola Tinubu.

Last week, in a statement issued by the presidency, President Tinubu had announced the sacking of five ministers.


They were Uju-Ken Ohanenye, the former Minister of Women Affairs; Lola Ade-John, the former Minister of Tourism; Tahir Mamman, the Minister of Education; Abdullahi Gwarzo, Minister of state, Housing and Urban Development, and Jamila Ibrahim, Minister of Youth Development.


The statement also revealed the appointment of seven newly appointed ministers, who would still have to be confirmed by the Senate.


They are Nentawe Yilwatda, Muhammadu Dingyadi, Bianca Odumegu-Ojukwu, Jumoke Oduwole, Idi Maiha, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, and Suwaiba Ahmad.


All seven nominees were confirmed as ministers by the Senate following their screening on Wednesday. 


The confirmation was requested by President Tinubu in line with the provisions of section 147 of the constitution.
