PDP: I Warned Them That If They Meddle In Rivers Matters, They Would Face Serious Consequences-Wike

According to a report from VANGUARD news. Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has reiterated his firm stance against political interference in the affairs of Rivers State.

Speaking at a civic reception hosted by the Rivers Ijaw People’s Congress in  Port Harcourt, Wike underscored the significance of Rivers State to him, asserting that any external involvement could lead to dire repercussions.

During his address, Wike expressed exasperation with certain governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing them of prioritizing meetings in Enugu and Taraba over their own electoral responsibilities. He stated, “I warned them that if they meddle in Rivers State matters, they would face serious consequences. Today, they are the ones lamenting. Instead of focusing on winning elections in their states, they chose to gather in Enugu and Taraba. Who is suffering now?”

Wike did not hold back in criticizing those he sees as detracting from the focus on governance, mocking their lack of attention to local issues while their constituents grapple with the consequences.

He also revealed that there had been attempts to disrupt the civic reception, alleging that some individuals were instigating violence in Rivers State. Wike emphasized that no group has a monopoly on violence, indicating that his administration would respond decisively to any threats.

In addition to addressing political interference, Wike defended his record on development initiatives, particularly the ring road project, which he claimed was initiated during his tenure as governor. He expressed frustration with opposition members attempting to claim credit for these projects, asserting that he continues to drive development efforts in Abuja as well.

Wike’s remarks come at a time of heightened political tension, as he seeks to assert his influence and protect the integrity of Rivers State’s governance amid external pressures.
