Wike:I'm asking him&everyone thatcalled Riverselders to sign document, can you transfervotes?–Dokubo
The chairperson of the Rivers State Labour Party, Hilda Dokubo, has expressed her views on the recent political developments in Rivers State, particularly the decision of 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to switch from the ruling PDP to the APC.
Dokubo emphasized the impossibility of elected officials transferring the votes they garnered in one political party to another. This statement comes in the wake of a court ruling in favor of the lawmakers who sought to prevent their seats from being declared vacant by INEC
Following the court's decision, Hilda Dokubo took to her official Instagram page to call on the federal government to refrain from
interfering in Rivers State affairs, asserting that they should focus on revitalizing the national economy instead. She critiqued the government for accusing former President Goodluck Jonathan's administration of corruption while, in her opinion, they have yet to address the corruption issues prevalent in the country.
Dokubo questioned the logic of elected officials defecting from one party to another and urged them to vacate their seats if they choose to switch allegiances. She pointed out the contradiction in politicians who were initially supported by a particular party and then defecting to a party established by the same political figure who supported them. In her questioning, she challenged the feasibility of transferring votes, asserting that constitutionally, the mandate given by the people cannot be transferred
In her words: "Can you transfer votes? Simple, if you're defecting, leave the seat. You cannot transfer votes. Nyesom Wike was the same man who said he single handedly bought everybody's form and now that same man who did all of this, his people are defecting to APC made by him. I'm asking him now and everyone that called Rivers State elders to sign that document, can you transfer votes? Constitutionally you cannot, you cannot transfer the mandate of the people
