Attack on power transmission tower : Identity of NSCDC officer killed by ISWAP’s IED revealed
The identity of a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) who was killed by Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) has been revealed.
News Agency reports that NSCDC officer identified as Nurudeen by counter insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, was killed when he mistakenly stepped on the IED at a scene of electricity tower destroyed by the ISWAP terrorists.
The destruction of the 330KVA high tension transmission line along Maiduguri-Damaturu Highway occurred in the early hours of December 28, 2023, at about 0700hours between Yanayakiri-Garin Kuturu in the Jakana general area.
Giving an update on the ugly incident in a post on its verified X handle on Friday, Zagazola Makama said : “The Nigerian Civil Defence Personnel, NURUDDEEN who paid the supreme price as a result of the Bomb Explosion, which brought 3 Power Towers Along Jakana-Auno in The Early Hours of Today 28/12/2023.
” This was the last photo of Nurudeen, the NSCDC Personnel who stepped on Explosive at the scene of the vandalized electricity tower
If you look critically, there was a tiny line across the path, attached to the both components on his left and the right hand sides,I guess that was the trigger.
” The NSCDC and the security agencies needed to learn from the previous incident. The ISWAP attack on the power transmission line usually comes with another IED attack.
They should deploy the EOD teams before giong to such scenes.”
Recall that on December 21, the terrorists also vandalised two transmission towers around Katsaita village causing failure of power supply parts of Borno and Yobe.
NSCDC is yet to react to the incident as at the time of filing this report.
