NHF: Reps summon Accountant-General days after NLC threat
House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee probing alleged non-remittance and utilization of the National Housing Fund from 2011 till date has summoned the Accountant-General of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Madein.
The Chairman of the Committee, Dachung Bagos, made this known on Tuesday in Abuja.
Bagos said the decision to summon the accountant-general was to get full information on deductions of National Housing Fund of Nigerian workers and remittance of same to the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is also expected to appear before the committee on Thursday.
One of the aims of the National Housing Fund is the mobilization of funds for the provision of affordable residential houses for Nigerians.
News Agency reports that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), citing challenges workers have in accessing the mortgage program despite making monthly contributions to the fund, has threatened to exclude civil personnel from the National Housing Fund (NHF).
The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) was also criticized by the congress for how it handled contributors’ money.
The President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, said on Wednesday during an investigative hearing organised by an ad hoc committee of the House of Representatives.
The committee is investigating remittances of the mandatory NHF contributions and the utilisation of the fund from 2011 till date.
