US Vice President, Tinubu hold crucial phone call

United States (US) Vice President, Kamala Harris, on Friday, spoke with Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu on a range of issues bothering on defending democracy in the West Africa and Sahel regions, and promotion of digital inclusion and economic growth.

VP Harris, who disclosed this on her verified Twitter handle, did not specify the issues she discussed with Tinubu. However, the phone call may not be unconnected with the military coup in the neighbouring Niger Republic.

News Agency reports that Tinubu is the new chairman of the regional Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

VP Harris wrote: “Today, I spoke with President Tinubu of Nigeria about the strong ties between the Nigerian and American people and our shared work on global and regional issues—from defending democracy in West Africa and the Sahel to promoting digital inclusion and economic growth.”

Recall that Tinubu had condemned the coup in Niger Republic, vowing to mobilise other head of states in ECOWAS to ensure restoration of democracy in the neighbouring country.
