Commissioner nominees: Uproar in Niger assembly over percentage of christians
Members of the State House of Assembly in Niger have expressed alarm about the fact that the list of 30 nominations for Commissioner, which was provided to the House by the state’s governor, Hon. Umar Bago, only included three Christians.
Only three Christians out of the 30 names on the list, according to the legislators who expressed grave concerns about the unfair religious imbalance in the list.
The imbalance in the list, which included only 10% of Christians, was questioned by some of the parliamentarians who convened over the weekend.
Recall that on Thursday, the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, held a special session of the legislature after the house had earlier adjourned until the following legislative day so that the members may hear the names read out.
