Gbajabiamila: “To The Matriarch Of Surulere, Mama, I’m Sorry If I’ve Offended You-Desmond Elliot

According to a report by Vanguard on Friday, May 15, 2026, Lagos lawmaker Desmond Elliot has issued a public apology to his political mentor and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, saying that any misunderstanding between them during recent political developments may have been unintentional.

The apology was made during a public appearance where Elliot addressed concerns about past disagreements linked to political activities within Lagos State.

He stated that his relationship with Gbajabiamila remains important to him and that he respects the role the Chief of Staff has played in his political journey.

The development comes in the context of earlier tensions surrounding the leadership situation in the Lagos State House of Assembly involving Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

During that period, Gbajabiamila had earlier suggested that he faced pressure at the federal level based on intelligence reports that allegedly connected Elliot to political moves aimed at changing the leadership structure in the Assembly.

Those claims had drawn attention within political circles, especially because of the perceived influence of the individuals involved and the sensitivity of the matter at the state legislative level.

Speaking during the televised conversation, Elliot explained that his entry into politics was guided by Gbajabiamila, whom he regards as a senior figure and mentor.

He noted that in political environments, misunderstandings can occur due to differing interests, communication gaps, and the complexity of political alliances.

He added that his intention has always been to contribute positively to governance and the development of his constituency, rather than to engage in actions that could create division within the political structure he belongs to.

Elliot also extended his apology to a senior community figure in Surulere, a constituency he represents in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

He expressed regret over any actions or comments that may have been interpreted as offensive, stating that his focus remains on representing the interests of his constituents effectively.

He emphasized that political engagement often comes with moments of disagreement, but such moments should not overshadow long-standing relationships or the responsibility of elected officials to their communities.

He said, “To the matriarch of Surulere, mama, I’m sorry if I’ve offended you.”
